STEM Design Challenge

This year all 5th grade students completed the 2021 STEM Design Challenge as part of STEAM class, though it was optional to submit their project in the official competition through ARIN IU28.

12 teams (39 students) from IKE and HM submitted their projects for which they had identified a problem, brainstormed solutions, drawn blueprints, built a prototype, and kept a notebook documenting the process including challenges they faced and suggestions for future improvements. Students also created video presentations demonstrating their inventions.

At tonight's Awards ceremony, I am thrilled to say our teams won 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable mention against teams from 10 other area schools!

Please recognize the following students when you see them at school.

1st Place (HM) - Gracie Reed, Lillian Mill, Kathryn Aiken - "Suzy Socks - The First"
2nd Place (HM) - Rebekah Tew and Sophia Boyer - "Dog Bath Distract"
3rd Place (IKE) - Ellie Coleman, Chloe Williams, Mackenzie Sensebaugh - "Bed/Couch/Table"
Hon. Mention (HM) - Adeline Alter, Namita Chaudhary, Emily Knepper - "The Blind Master"

Thank you for continuing to support the STEAM program at the intermediate level.
