COVID-19 Update - High School

February 4, 2021

Dear Families:

The District was notified that a student at the High School has tested positive for COVID-19.  This positive case WILL be counted towards the rolling 14-day count.  Three students are being quarantined as a result of the positive case due to a possible exposure on the school bus.  Nevertheless, we will continue to stay open under the current model.   See below for the current case numbers at each building as of this morning, February 4, 2021.

  • Senior High - 3 active cases
  • Junior High - 1 active case
  • Eisenhower - 0 active cases
  • Horace Mann - 0 active cases
  • Ben Franklin - 0 active cases
  • East Pike - 0 active cases

We previously informed you about the case at the Junior High, and this case will be removed from the Junior High’s active roster on Friday, February, 5. The existing case at the Senior High, of which staff and families were also previously informed, will be removed on February 6. That will leave us with two active cases (February 2 notification and today’s case). The 14-day clock starts at the onset of symptoms, not when the District is informed of the test results. In alignment with our Health and Safety Plan, as well as the attestation that the District signed, we are able to remain open.

As always, the number of confirmed cases can change at any time. Many experts have predicted that the winter months could be difficult in regard to the pandemic. Thus, we are asking families to be prepared in case a switch to 100% remote learning is required.  The Senior High is one case away from being closed for 3-5 days.  As per the District’s attestation, we would close once we get between 2-4 cases.  We understand the terrible inconvenience a closure causes our families; however, we have a responsibility to make you aware of the possibility.  My goal is not to cause panic, rather it is to help make you aware of the current situation in case the District needs to make a change rather quickly.

Respectfully,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

IASD Superintendent
