COVID-19 Update - High School and Junior High Cases

January 25, 2021

Dear Families:

The District was notified that a student at the High School has tested positive for COVID-19.  Additionally, a staff member at the Junior High has also tested positive  These two positive cases WILL be counted towards the rolling 14-day count. The high school student is not actively involved in an extracurricular activity at the moment and does not attend ICTC. The student was in attendance at school and contagious on January 21 and 22.  Contact tracing at school demonstrates that all students in his/her classes were masked, socially distanced, and never within 6 feet of the student for more than 15 minutes consecutively or cumulatively.  As a result, we will continue to stay open under the current model.   See below for the current case numbers at each building as of this morning, January 25, 2021

  • Senior High - 1 active case
  • Jr. High - 1 active case
  • Eisenhower - 1 active case
  • Horace Mann - 0 active cases
  • Ben Franklin - 0 active cases
  • East Pike - 0 active cases

The case at Eisenhower will be removed on January 26. The 14-day clock starts at the onset of symptoms, not when the District is informed of the test results.  Additionally, we had another high school student who has tested positive, but it will not count towards our rolling average, as he/she has not been in school since last month due to possible exposure. In alignment with our Health and Safety Plan, as well as the attestation that the District signed, we are able to remain open.

As always, the number of confirmed cases can change at any time.  Many experts have predicted that January could be a difficult month in regard to the pandemic. Thus, we are asking families to be prepared in case a switch to 100% remote learning is required.  As per the District’s attestation, we would close once we get between 2-4 cases.  We understand the terrible inconvenience a closure causes our families; however, we have a responsibility to make you aware of the possibility.  My goal is not to cause panic, rather it is to help make you aware of the current situation in case the District needs to make a change rather quickly.

Respectfully,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich
